Review Contents

The company behind HitBTC

HitBTC was founded in 2013 by technology experts on the field of both trading and programming to deliver tools and features satisfying even the most sophisticated traders’ needs. Real-time trading, low latency, highly reliable system with peak performance. This is what the founder had visioned when they started building HitBTC.

According to bitcoin.it, HitBTC is a European bitcoin exchange that stated with 6 million venture capital investment in Hong Kong in 2013. You may find on their About us page that their headquarter is at Unit 19, 7/F, One Midtown No11 Hoi Shing Road, Hong Kong, but they focus on the European bitcoin and altcoin trading market.

HitBTC is pretty active on several social media platforms. On Twitter they have more than 240k followers where they share all the important updates related to the site, along with interviews, interesting topics, and partnerships especially offer related to trading bot applications. You can also follow HitBTC on Facebook together with their 20k followers their news and updates. And finally, they also run a separate Reddit thread just to provide updates and solve the issues raised by their users more quickly.

How fast is the verification with HitBTC.com?

Registration is a breeze with HitBTC and it literally just took seconds. You need to provide an email and password along with your country of residence and name. After filling out the details you got a confirmation link that lets you into your trading account.

HitBTC Sign Up

Once confirming your registration you need to accept the Privacy Policy by scrolling to the end and checking the boxes that 1) you are at least 18 years old 2) let them collect personal information to provide a better service and 3) sign up to their newsletter. You can withdraw the last two consent at any time in the future if you want.

On the next screen, you are prompted to secure your account with 2FA authentication, but you can skip this step and do this later on. It is highly recommended though to set up a secondary authentication measure with Googe Authenticator or YubiKey to make sure you avoid any unauthorized access to your account in case of password leaking.

With the starter account you can start trading right away, just bear in mind that you are limited only to cryptocurrency deposits and withdrawals, and the limits are also set to 1 BTC daily and 5 BTC monthly withdrawal without verification.

But that doesn’t stop there, if you want to fund your account using FIAT, then you need to verify your account. How do you get your account verified on HitBTC?

Go to Settings under your account and click on KYC.

KYC

You will be given a form that you have to fill out to proceed with identity verification. Upon completing this, HitBTC asks you to provide the following personal information:

  • Personal Information: Name, Date of Birth, Nationality (as listed on a Government-issued ID)
  • Residential Address
  • Bank account information (For people that want to use FIAT)
  • Proof of Identity (in a form of a government-issued photo ID)
  • Selfie with your ID
  • Mobile number

A note found at the end of the verification guide page says, that the IDs must be valid for the next 3 months, must be a photo of the original document, not a photocopy and all the pictures must be clear, color, and high resolutions.

You need to keep that in mind before you submit any requirements to them so that you wouldn’t encounter any problems when it comes to verifying your account.

Although generally speaking HitBTC is a crypto-to-crypto exchange, through a new feature you can buy bitcoin without leaving the platform. In partnership with Freewallet and Simplex, you can easily purchase the coins needed for the first deposit without going through long and tedious registrations on other sites.

Verification types offered by HitBTC

  1. Starter
  2. Trader
  3. Pro

These are the levels of accounts that you would be able to get with HitBTC, each of these levels have their own advantage. Of course, the higher the level, the higher the trading volume.

For “Starter” accounts, you can, of course, deposit cryptocurrency for free, and your daily withdrawal limit is 1 BTC of cryptocurrency per day. FIAT transactions are not available for the starter verification tier.

The second tier is “Trader” and you get free deposits for cryptos and a maximum of 100 BTC worth of cryptocurrency withdrawal per day. This verification level also lets you buy and sell cryptocurrencies in exchange for fiat currencies.

The final tier is called “Pro” and, of course, you do not need to pay for any crypto deposits. If you provide additional documents regarding your bank account and your financial situation like the source of funds or opening an account for a business you can enjoy even higher limits.

Demo Mode!

What’s really exciting about their website is that HitBTC.com offers a demo mode where you can play with their websites and features and try to feel comfortable with trading without losing anything! With just a few simple clicks, you would be able to enter the “Demo Mode” where all transactions are made for practice purposes.

You can sign up at https://demo.hitbtc.com/ where you are given 2000 USDT play money to start trading right away and get a feeling about how the platform works.

HitBTC trading fees

HitBTC uses a maker-taker fee model, where the trading fees start at 0.1% for market makers and 0.2% for takers who draw liquidity from the market with their orders.

The more you trade on HitBTC the lower trading fees you get. The discounted trading fees are starting from 10 BTC monthly turnovers and you can also enjoy a 30% trading fee discount right away once you have verified your account. If you manage to reach 100 000 BTC monthly trading volume you even get a rebate when you are providing liquidity to the market.

An in-depth guide can be read through this link regarding their fees.

Order Types on HitBTC

HitBTC offers a wide variety of basic and advanced order types.

With an ordinary Market order, you can place a buy or sell order at the prevailing market price. The market price, in this case, is the best available price at the time the order was placed.

There are several types of Limit orders available at HitBTC. In case of a limit order, the order is executed only if the limit price or better is reached. The order execution can be set in various ways for a limit order. Good-til-canceled order remains open until they are completed or canceled. Day orders are open until the end of the day at 0:00 UTC time, similarly, Good-Til-Date orders will be open until your predefined deadline and after that is expires. Fill-or-Kill orders are executed immediately with its entire balance, otherwise canceled, in contrast, Immediate-or-Cancel order allows partial execution with the remaining balance of the order which is not executed being canceled. Additionally, you can post limit orders in Post-only mode, which means it will only be entered into the order book if it is matching an existing order, otherwise, it expires, which guarantees you will pay only the market maker fee, not the taker fee.

You can combine both Limit and Market orders with a Stop order, which means the order will enter into a Limit or Market order only once the specified stop price is reached.

And finally, there is a special, complex order type at HitBTC called Scaled order. This is a set of multiple orders which are distributed in a price range.

Trade and Win

Recently HitBTC introduced a new feature on the platform: trading tournaments. You can join other traders in a competition to race for the largest trading win in a given time period. Traders can join the tournaments up to 12 hours before the end. The entering pot is the same for everyone and the prizes are credited to that user whose trading balance is the largest at the end of the competition.

Contests are organized by other users on the platform not directly by HitBTC, so each tournament can have its own set of rules you need to follow. Tournaments are available for both BTC and other altcoins.

Security

HitBTC urges you to set up a 2-step verification process for all users through the commonly used Google Authenticator and other popular 2FA authenticator applications. This security feature is used for all logins and withdrawals. You are prompted to turn on 2FA right after sign up and every time you reload a screen until you have managed to secure your account. It might seem an annoying feature first, but it is just real in place to protect users from scams and thefts.

To enable your 2-step verification security, you need to go to Settings > Security and then set up your account. It is always wise to keep your account secured no matter how small your trades are.

Website Interface for HitBTC

The website interface is something that newbies might not like. It is filled with all the information a seasoned trader would need, but could be too much information for a new person who just came into Bitcoin trading. Good thing that the Demo Mode is there to help you out in getting familiar with everything on the website.

Customer Support

If you want something answered, they have a ticketing system that serves as their customer service support platform. You can choose from General Questions, Payment, Technical, and Verification Questions through this channel. You might want to also read about people that are having problems with their HitBTC account through this forum post on BitcoinTalk. This might give you an idea of how they operate. It happened in the past unfortunately too many users that they were not able to withdraw their funds from the platform due to inappropriate verification or incorrect account setup.

Make sure you fully understand their terms and read other customer reviews before depositing significant amounts on the exchange.

Not the best exchange but not the worst either, Gonna stay here for a while but please reduce the fee to zero

  2. Nick, 17. August 2018

Verification took unnecessarily long. It’s (I believe it is) the most secure and reputable of all exchanges. Once in, trades are lightening quick. Their analytics is on par with a typical trading floor analytics. They are supported by Swiss Quote, so they’ll eventually get better. They are licensed.

  3. Jim, 16. August 2018

I have already used the services of this exchange several times and so far no problems with transactions have arisen. The exchange rate is fast and I am mostly satisfied with it…

  4. Dean Barrow, 15. August 2018

The verification took a bit of time but ever since that it’s approved I have been doing a lot of transaction all good so far, it’s a decent exchange. Easy to use interface and small fees.

  5. Jimmy N, 14. August 2018

I am new to crypto’s. HITBTC is my first and currently only exchange. I sent papers and doc’s and waited patiently. It took 3 weeks and I now have an account. I see no problems so far. I just hope that when I sell – all will be good. I have nothing to complain about at this point. just wanted to share my experience after I saw some other people complaining…

  6. Nick, 14. August 2018

Really low fees and fast service. What else do you need?

  7. Rosa, 13. August 2018

It is great to see that HitBTC is oriented towards both beginners and experts. If you need a helping hand, you can always contact their support team via their request system where you post ticket concerning your issue or query. The customer support usually responds within 24 hours to the requests.

  8. Binn, 13. August 2018

Good and convenient platform. There are no problems with withdrawals – this is the main thing for such platforms, in my opinion, the rest is secondary.

  9. Poppy, 10. August 2018

Using the nigth mode everywhere I can. The only thing I am wondering about is why there’s a night mode for the ‘Exchange’ tab only. All the others are default style.

  10. Mary Cooper, 10. August 2018

HitBTC is a multi-currency exchange platform. They support more than 300 cryptocurrencies, including all the major altcoins and tokens. Even if you are a beginner, you can easily start trading with small amounts before you get more confident.

  11. Jimmy, 8. August 2018

I have to mention that HitBTC offers a more advanced trading platform than most of the exchanges nowadays. Their fees are competitively low. Let’s say if you would like to make money through trading different cryptocurrencies, HitBTC offers you the great tool in order to do it successfully.

  12. Lizzy B, 7. August 2018

Despite some negative things told about this exchange, I won’t stop using it… You can tell whatever you want but the service is great

  13. Daniel85, 6. August 2018

This exchange has always been userfriendly to me and I just can’t agree with all the people telling the opposite. I’m sure this AML policy will help devs to protect their exchange from ‘illegal’ traders and money launderings.

  14. Lily, 3. August 2018

I’ve used many exchange platforms. Some were good, some not. Hitbtc is a solid and reliable platform. It’s not the best exchange on the market, but it’s in the Top 5.

  15. Andrew, 2. August 2018

What’s demo mode? Where can I find and try it?
I’m just searching for a good exchange at the moment…

  16. Jones B, 29. July 2018

This exchange is a complete fraud and scam. I lost my phone and my 2fa authenticator. I gave them information that only I would know including my recent hashes from last transactions and my photo ID. They are keeping my money along with my ID information. They say they sell your ID information on the web. DO NOT USE THIS EXCHANGE!

  17. Paulie, 28. July 2018

HitBTC, is a SCAM. My phone was defective and I lost access to 2fa authenticator. I gave HitBTC all necessary information they locked me out of my account and I am out over $3000

  18. Miller, 25. July 2018

I was not able to buy xmr this week, I contacted support. Everything was solved quickly. Thanks.

  19. Hazem Samman, 24. July 2018

I don’t believe its a scam but suffer serious deficiency in their level of support and commitment toward traders.

Hitbtc management have decided to suspend withdrawals of thousands and thousands of traders and hold their funds (you could be the next) and took them in an ride called KYC/AML process which involve providing sensitive data including but not limited to passport copies, selfies, utility bills, credit card, bank statements, source of funds, history of trading, screen shots of trades made in the past…etc, which has proven to be a very long and potentially endless process due to the amount of time taken by their support and security teams to respond and move to the next step before they go back to square one and repeat the cycle again and again, I hope this is not intentional, if you are in the same miserable situation do not drop your funds and move on, this is your hard earned money which is own by you and not Hitbtc…..you are not alone, there are thousands and thousands of traders suffering the same situation since several months, continue chasing, hoping that this will get back your hard earned money.

Having said that Hitbtc is a truly advance trading platform which combine advance feature with the ease of use which turn crypto trading into amazing experience, however, what is the point of trading when your funds get blocked for several months if not forever.

If you are new to the crypto space don’t let positive reviews fool you out, they could be fake, make your own study.

    Best of luck to all

  20. Mary J, 24. July 2018

I have been trading on hitbtc for several months and I want to share my thoughts on it. There is a huge number of pairs of coins and tokens, you can work with any currencies and this is good. I personally work with several at once. And some of these coins are not so common on other exchanges. So my opinion on this exchange is mostly positive. The only bad thing is, their toolkit may look complicated if you are a total beginner. I had to read their blog to study all the details.

  21. Frank J, 23. July 2018

I don’t know why some people write that support answers for a long time. I contacted support several times and they always answered me very fast.

  22. Newt, 20. July 2018

I can’t say anything bad about this exchange. I also use 2 other exchanges. But most often this one. There are no fundamental differences between them, but Hitbtc is more convenient for me, and I trade on it for so long.

  23. Michael, 15. July 2018

Don’t even think about using this scam exchange. They may allow small transactions, but anything above 0.5 ETH and they will steal it. This is NO BS. Do NOT use. You’ve been warned. I am still waiting since FEB 2018 for them to process my eth deposit. Use Binance, Bittrex or similar. The positive or neutral reviews here are all fake, and paid for by the scam exchange Hitbtc.

  24. J.E., 12. July 2018

So far I’m trying to get used to this exchange. The registry process was very simple and now I’m a bit distracted with all the new functions and abilities of HitBTC. I really like the interface, though.

  25. B. Fall, 11. July 2018

It’s a very ordinary exchange. Just like the others. There are only a few differences: number of tokens and ability to trade fiat. Yet, I don’t understand its color palette at all. Just a strange mixture of blue, red, green, orange and purple. And grey.

  26. Leo, 10. July 2018

It is my first experience with trading. Brother recommended me to use hitbtc as my first exchange platform, he also encourages me and helps a lot. The registration was simple and it made me more self-confident to continue learning the ABCs of trading.

  27. Sandip, 9. July 2018

My friend says he often gains great profits here.

  28. Leonardo, 5. July 2018

Basically, I buy tokens here. There are really a lot of them, compared to other well-known exchanges. This exchange is cool, but I recommend to use several different exchanges at the same for better profits.

  29. Joek, 2. July 2018

The fees are manageable. Some exchanges take less, but they do not provide such good service as hitBTC. Support is always here to help if anything goes wrong.

  30. Terry, 19. June 2018

Hitbtc has a very convenient platform toolkit. It’s comfortable to arrive on the platform and start trading. Everything is within touch…

  31. Blake, 18. June 2018

Not Scam! Do not be fooled! HitBTC is Not Scam! They helped my stuck transaction to pass. The case happened almost half a year ago but now I’d like everyone to hear my story! When I bought IOTA, it didn’t drop into my account. And that made me feel sick. HitBTC never let me down before! I panicked and contacted support at once. The was no answer for a few hours but than the standard apology mail came. Well, I decided to wait for a few more days. And my case was solved. So, all I can say is: there’s no need to panic when you trade on an exchange you trust. I trust HitBTC. And the root of the problems was user overload at December. Now everything is great!

  32. Sarah, 15. June 2018

Well, for some reason you don’t rate it high… I think it’s a bit better exchange than you describe it… At least i myself had no issues with trading on hitbtc.

  33. Granny, 14. June 2018

They do not have demo mode now. this is unfortunate. But I don’t need it anymore… Well, for newbies it would be useful. Anyway, Hitbtc is still doing great.

  34. Pat, 12. June 2018

    TOTAL SCAM

    -withdraw not available
-KYC mailed 3 times , still support keep requesting
    – deposit works fine, withdraws don´t
    – support send useless copypaste idiotics tips
    – support “look into it ” for past 24 months….
    – support will contact you soon … for past 7 days…

  35. Batsy, 7. June 2018

HitBTC is quite easy in understanding and it makes the site very convenient in use. And the number of tools makes the trading more accessible to every category of users.

  36. Nicholas, 5. June 2018

Large liquidity, low fees. What else would you need? As a trader, I can say that HitBTC is the best exchange I’ve ever used.

To my mind, HitBTC looks much more solid among other competitive exchanges. It’s time-tested and has a great community.

I had no problem with any other crypto currency exchanger to deposit or withdraw any kind of coins.
This exchanger HitBtc they don’t respond to any emails regarding complaints or questionnaire.
I accidentally found a complaint from one of their members about refusing his request to withdraw his coins.
I decided to do the same to know exactly if this is true or not.
I’m now %100 sure that it’s true- I want to get all my money from this exchanger but they do not respond.
What can I do now- I need to get my money but they do not allow me to get it and this is for sure illegal because to my knowledge there isn’t any financial institution centralized or decentralized has the right to keep somebody’s money for no reason.
I tried several times but no answer and now I need this money urgently.
    I really need your help.

I moved to hitbtc exchange a few weeks ago. The reason was quite simple: the previous one wasn’t working very well. Hitbtc is much better. Thanks.

If you like scammy glitchy wastes of your time and losing money, HitBTC is perfect for you. HitBTC accepted over 23,000 Siacoin from my miner. Then they didn’t credit it and it’s been nearly two months now. They keep claiming it’s technical maintenance but not updating their system health page. Then they give me the runaround in support tickets by giving no information and closing the tickets when the issue isn’t resolved. I’m losing even more in my time and efforts following up because they keep making me start over. Save yourself the trouble I’m going through and AVOID.

I would advice that you with draw all your funds from that exchange. They has people within the exchange that specialist in stealing their customers asset. They teamed up and stole all my cryptos. Am not trying to spread fud but these guys are professional criminals and am planning to set up a social media campaign to close down this exchange. You asset is not safe withdraw it as soon as you can. if you doubt what am saying the ticket for my complain about this is #266417 . They do not have a refund policy for customers because their staff members are aware and complicit.

Hitbtc is not a scam. Support several times returned my coins back to me when I sent them to the wrong address.

The exchange itself is “okay”. The interface is relatively user friendly and responsive. The trading pairs offered are numerous, and the trading is lively. The chart interval is as short as 1 minute. The minimum trading amounts, decimal place limitations, and “amount chunk size” (e.g., amounts for AUTO must be divisible by 1000) are problematic. The TrollBox is amusing, though overrun with pump-and-dumpers/spammers.

HOWEVER. They need to seriously work on their customer support! Back in February I reset my phone, not realizing that I would lose access to all of my Google Authenticator tokens. With some effort I successfully regained access to all of my exchanges/ICO sites/etc., EXCEPT for HitBTC. TL;DR: after 77 days, my 2FA issue (ticket #251942) is still not resolved. Here’s the full timeline:

2/26/2018 – I e-mailed support{at}hitbtc{dot}com (the e-mail address shown on their 2FA confirmation screen at that time, though today I see that the e-mail address has been replaced by a link to a support portal web page), requesting that my Google Auth 2FA be removed and explaining what happened. No response.
3/5/2018 (1 week later) – I e-mailed them again, requesting an update and asking if they needed additional information. No response.
3/8/2018 – I read on a forum that the correct e-mail address was actually support{at}hitbtc{dot}zendesk{dot}com (even though that wasn’t the address shown on their site), so I e-mailed the Zendesk address including a selfie with my ID, and a screenshot of my e-mail web site showing the very message I was composing.
3/15/2018 (1 more week later) – I finally got a response from Christina Nunes at HitBTC (ticket #251942), requesting that I send her a photo showing my face next to the e-mail she sent me. It was a very awkward pose, crouching on the floor facing away from my work computer, but I sent the photo within 1 hour of her request.
3/20/2018 (5 days later) – Christina responded, stating that my request had been forwarded to their Security Department and that it would take them “up to 2 weeks” to remove the 2FA from my account.
4/24/2018 (34 days later!) – After more than a month, their next message came from Martina Castellon at HitBTC, stating that their Security Department required MORE information. They wanted “information about your recent account activity (several transaction hashes, or trades you’ve made, etc.)”. She closed her message with, “Looking forward to helping you.” My incredulous response is perhaps best conveyed as a direct quote:
“Are you kidding me? I haven’t had access to my account for almost 2 months. I don’t HAVE any recent transactions! And I don’t have access to my HitBTC transaction records, since I can’t bloody log into my HitBTC account. Shall I repeat myself? I can’t tell you what the last transactions on the account were, because I can’t log into the account to see them! I’ve provided just about every piece of information I am able to. {e-mail} is ME, and I am {name}, just like my ID says. I am the sole owner of the HitBTC account with the login e-mail {e-mail}, phone number {phone}. Do you plan to drag this out for even more months, is your plan to wear me out until I give up and you can steal my money, or would you please just give me access to my damn account again? Thank you.”
5/14/2018 – Today, 20 days after my last message (and *77* days since I initially contacted them), I have not yet received another response from them, and I still don’t have access to my account.

Word to the wise…do not keep many funds on this site. Their support is sub-par to just about any other exchange I have dealt with over 6 years. Every transaction you do on their site be sure to log in a file you will always have access to, the transaction ids, wallet addresses, hashes, dates, etc. if you ever have to reset your 2fA this will be required or they take your funds, which may be part of their overall scam.

The cool thing is that many new promising tokens and coins are immediately added! Although not all, but the majority.

  47. F Nnaji, 30. April 2018

How on earth can all these is been going on and this exchange is still live robbing people. Their staff members have hacked into my account and have cleared all my assets. This exchange needs to be shut down immediately. Scamming people is not legal the crypto regulatory bodies should look into to see they would refund customers their assets. hitbtc should be delisted as an exchange platform in the coin market.

  48. daniel normann, 30. April 2018

Hitbtc is a scam; they do not hesitate to steal your money! please try to warn everyone; they stole mine and I do not want anyone to effected like me; its so sad. I believe in justice and I know they will regret.

HitBITC is commonly discussed on major coin forums as one of the dangerous exchanges to deal with. Look no further than SmartCash’s Discord where admins and community members unanimously do not recommend trading on HitBTC as it is unreliable and has held peoples currency for periods greater than one month! This is not a one off occurance, but is frequent. Many people openly accuse the exchange of stealing the staking rewards.

This opinion is echoed on Dogecoin forums where users claim Dogecoin transactions have “mysteriously” become locked up and prevent users from withdrawing their coins for extended periods… Look at the Telegram feeds for most major coins & Tokens and you will find HitBTC appearing on blacklists.

More recently senior identities of major projects have begun to question whether the exchange is solvent and potentially exposed to upcoming fraud, money laundering, tax evasion and claims of market manipulation & front-running… I believe HitBTC is to be one of the exchanges exposed by Cryptocriterion in the coming months.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I would rate it 7.8/10. Hitbit is quite a good exchange, but support could work a bit faster.
