Review Contents

The company behind HitBTC

HitBTC was founded in 2013 by technology experts on the field of both trading and programming to deliver tools and features satisfying even the most sophisticated traders’ needs. Real-time trading, low latency, highly reliable system with peak performance. This is what the founder had visioned when they started building HitBTC.

According to bitcoin.it, HitBTC is a European bitcoin exchange that stated with 6 million venture capital investment in Hong Kong in 2013. You may find on their About us page that their headquarter is at Unit 19, 7/F, One Midtown No11 Hoi Shing Road, Hong Kong, but they focus on the European bitcoin and altcoin trading market.

HitBTC is pretty active on several social media platforms. On Twitter they have more than 240k followers where they share all the important updates related to the site, along with interviews, interesting topics, and partnerships especially offer related to trading bot applications. You can also follow HitBTC on Facebook together with their 20k followers their news and updates. Their Telegram channel is to help all the users who have issues to resolve immediate issues which do not require an identification of the account. They take spamming as a very serious offense, so they immediately ban all those scammers who just join the group to defraud others, making is a safe place for HitBTC traders. On the Github repository, you may find the documentation related to their API. And finally, they also run a separate Reddit thread just to provide updates and solve the issues raised by their users more quickly.

How fast is the verification with HitBTC.com?

Registration is a breeze with HitBTC and it literally just took seconds. You need to provide an email and password along with your country of residence and name. After filling out the details you got a confirmation link that lets you into your trading account.

HitBTC Sign Up

Once confirming your registration you need to accept the Privacy Policy by scrolling to the end and checking the boxes that 1) you are at least 18 years old 2) let them collect personal information to provide a better service and 3) sign up to their newsletter. You can withdraw the last two consent at any time in the future if you want.

On the next screen, you are prompted to secure your account with 2FA authentication, but you can skip this step and do this later on. It is highly recommended though to set up a secondary authentication measure with Googe Authenticator or YubiKey to make sure you avoid any unauthorized access to your account in case of password leaking.

With the starter account you can start trading right away, just bear in mind that you are limited only to cryptocurrency deposits and withdrawals, and the limits are also set to 1 BTC daily and 5 BTC monthly withdrawal without verification.

But that doesn’t stop there, if you want to fund your account using FIAT, then you need to verify your account. How do you get your account verified on HitBTC?

Go to Settings under your account and click on KYC.

KYC

You will be given a form that you have to fill out to proceed with identity verification. Upon completing this, HitBTC asks you to provide the following personal information:

  • Personal Information: Name, Date of Birth, Nationality (as listed on a Government-issued ID)
  • Residential Address
  • Bank account information (For people that want to use FIAT)
  • Proof of Identity (in a form of a government-issued photo ID)
  • Selfie with your ID
  • Mobile number

A note found at the end of the verification guide page says, that the IDs must be valid for the next 3 months, must be a photo of the original document, not a photocopy and all the pictures must be clear, color, and high resolutions.

You need to keep that in mind before you submit any requirements to them so that you wouldn’t encounter any problems when it comes to verifying your account.

Although generally speaking HitBTC is a crypto-to-crypto exchange, through a new feature you can buy bitcoin without leaving the platform. In partnership with Freewallet and Simplex, you can easily purchase the coins needed for the first deposit without going through long and tedious registrations on other sites.

Verification types offered by HitBTC

  1. Starter
  2. Trader
  3. Pro

These are the levels of accounts that you would be able to get with HitBTC, each of these levels have their own advantage. Of course, the higher the level, the higher the trading volume.

For “Starter” accounts, you can, of course, deposit cryptocurrency for free, and your daily withdrawal limit is 1 BTC of cryptocurrency per day. FIAT transactions are not available for the starter verification tier.

The second tier is “Trader” and you get free deposits for cryptos and a maximum of 100 BTC worth of cryptocurrency withdrawal per day. This verification level also lets you buy and sell cryptocurrencies in exchange for fiat currencies.

The final tier is called “Pro” and, of course, you do not need to pay for any crypto deposits. If you provide additional documents regarding your bank account and your financial situation like the source of funds or opening an account for a business you can enjoy even higher limits.

Demo Mode!

What’s really exciting about their website is that HitBTC.com offers a demo mode where you can play with their websites and features and try to feel comfortable with trading without losing anything! With just a few simple clicks, you would be able to enter the “Demo Mode” where all transactions are made for practice purposes.

You can sign up at https://demo.hitbtc.com/ where you are given 2000 USDT play money to start trading right away and get a feeling about how the platform works.

HitBTC trading fees

HitBTC uses a maker-taker fee model, where the trading fees start at 0.1% for market makers and 0.2% for takers who draw liquidity from the market with their orders.

The more you trade on HitBTC the lower trading fees you get. The discounted trading fees are starting from 10 BTC monthly turnovers and you can also enjoy a 30% trading fee discount right away once you have verified your account. If you manage to reach 100 000 BTC monthly trading volume you even get a rebate when you are providing liquidity to the market.

An in-depth guide can be read through this link regarding their fees.

Order Types on HitBTC

HitBTC offers a wide variety of basic and advanced order types.

With an ordinary Market order, you can place a buy or sell order at the prevailing market price. The market price, in this case, is the best available price at the time the order was placed.

There are several types of Limit orders available at HitBTC. In case of a limit order, the order is executed only if the limit price or better is reached. The order execution can be set in various ways for a limit order. Good-til-canceled order remains open until they are completed or canceled. Day orders are open until the end of the day at 0:00 UTC time, similarly, Good-Til-Date orders will be open until your predefined deadline and after that is expires. Fill-or-Kill orders are executed immediately with its entire balance, otherwise canceled, in contrast, Immediate-or-Cancel order allows partial execution with the remaining balance of the order which is not executed being canceled. Additionally, you can post limit orders in Post-only mode, which means it will only be entered into the order book if it is matching an existing order, otherwise, it expires, which guarantees you will pay only the market maker fee, not the taker fee.

You can combine both Limit and Market orders with a Stop order, which means the order will enter into a Limit or Market order only once the specified stop price is reached.

And finally, there is a special, complex order type at HitBTC called Scaled order. This is a set of multiple orders which are distributed in a price range.

Trade and Win

Recently HitBTC introduced a new feature on the platform: trading tournaments. You can join other traders in a competition to race for the largest trading win in a given time period. Traders can join the tournaments up to 12 hours before the end. The entering pot is the same for everyone and the prizes are credited to that user whose trading balance is the largest at the end of the competition.

Contests are organized by other users on the platform not directly by HitBTC, so each tournament can have its own set of rules you need to follow. Tournaments are available for both BTC and other altcoins.

Security

HitBTC urges you to set up a 2-step verification process for all users through the commonly used Google Authenticator and other popular 2FA authenticator applications. This security feature is used for all logins and withdrawals. You are prompted to turn on 2FA right after sign up and every time you reload a screen until you have managed to secure your account. It might seem an annoying feature first, but it is just real in place to protect users from scams and thefts.

To enable your 2-step verification security, you need to go to Settings > Security and then set up your account. It is always wise to keep your account secured no matter how small your trades are.

Website Interface for HitBTC

The website interface is something that newbies might not like. It is filled with all the information a seasoned trader would need, but could be too much information for a new person who just came into Bitcoin trading. Good thing that the Demo Mode is there to help you out in getting familiar with everything on the website.

Customer Support

If you want something answered, they have a ticketing system that serves as their customer service support platform. You can choose from General Questions, Payment, Technical, and Verification Questions through this channel. You might want to also read about people that are having problems with their HitBTC account through this forum post on BitcoinTalk. This might give you an idea of how they operate. It happened in the past unfortunately too many users that they were not able to withdraw their funds from the platform due to inappropriate verification or incorrect account setup.

Make sure you fully understand their terms and read other customer reviews before depositing significant amounts on the exchange.

I have no problems trading at HitBTC.

  4. Kelvin, 17. April 2018

I’m sometimes looking through reviews on ratings and often they turn to be common errors of traders or common spam. I don’t know why hitbtc is discussed as much but i think it can be explained by a big number of traders working here. people like this exchange for sure.

  5. friz, 11. April 2018

i believe I’ll be supported by many traders, Hitbtc is the excellent place where you can trade. Low fees and good liquidity would be a pleasant thing for you. Along with that, you wont have to wait for long when your profit is withdrawn, I proved that by my own experience.

  6. Johndeway, 8. April 2018

Don’t think it is scam. I read before that all problems that people some time have are resolved for a while. Personally I never had problems with Hitbtc.

  7. saider, 6. April 2018

Hitbts seems good, i’v decided to buy XEM on this exchange, it seems there is no need for the verification, i think there’s maybe only a few place where that is possible. Don’t know what to do with the protection, what do you think, to switch it on or off?

  8. Tim, 3. April 2018

Hitbtc is a scam. I deposited all my NGC tokens and they took them all for fees!!! I contacted them many times and they will not help

  9. Big, 30. March 2018

Design of Hitbtc website is classy and gives the most convenient client area if compared to others. the set of options is very developed and offers all you ned to trade. you can use this exchange as the multicoin wallet. Top notch system of protection, no worries about safety.

  10. kandy, 27. March 2018

At the moment I like hitbtc exchange, you can trade without knowledge of English, I just turned on Google translator. The trading interface is created by the type of other exchanges, the procedure for creating an order, placing of the main interface elements are similar to the conventional one. In general, if you have experience with other crypto platforms, then there will be no problems.

  12. john, 17. March 2018

    oh hitBTC
i have 2FA problem already a month i can not access to my account just because i did upgrade my phone so 2FA i lost.
I have provided my data via email to hitbtc support team, but until now no answer from the support team and my ticket number is # 226977
    I just want to say
hitBTC you are not professional !!!
and I thank God, I do not have funds in the account because I also just register so have not made a deposit. If so, I do not know what my fate will be.
And I googling it out there are still many who experienced events like me.
    again I want to say
hitBTC has been 3 years way but not professional and embarrassing I can not imagine if people’s funds can not be accessed only because of 2FA problem only.
Hopefully the incident that happened to me, did not happen to you guys carefully

  13. NT, 17. March 2018

    Support is a joke!
They want a selfie with a screen monitor behind you so they could read the open ticket!
Thank God I only used them for many of my coins.

  14. Scrypto, 15. March 2018

    SCAM. SCAM. SCAM.
December 21. Opened account with deposit of 4*2000 XRP, of which only 2000 were credited. XRP ledger confirms all 8000 XRP went to the address HitBTC provided (with correct tag). My support tickets about this keep getting marked ‘solved’ though no action has been taken by HitBTC.
Also, 2FA stopped working 2 months ago (the day after I set it up!). Two months later and still not restored (yes, required documents were provided by me).
Any response from support, as well as being incredibly tardy, gives the impression of being auto-generated.
I have given up on my account and deducted the coins from my portfolio.
Absolute 100% SCAM. This is why regulation is needed.

  15. Myles, 10. March 2018

not bad at all, I`m using there API for trading and happy with it.

    DONT INVEST IN HITBTS!!!!!

  17. Brian, 1. March 2018

Only reason they get one star is I cannot go lower.

    SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM

is case you didn’t catch that…SCAM!

2A login trouble out of the blue and cannot get a dang bit of help. Called there support line twice and was finally told they cannot help me that I am simply out of luck! They said I might have a chance with email support but I cannot get them to email me back at all.

Everyone, make sure we get this out all over the web…Please do not give them the satisfaction of gaining any new customers!

  18. N. Brown, 24. February 2018

Avoid this exchange at all costs! HitBTC allowed TWO fraudulent logins to not only get into my account, but to trade almost every dollar worth of coins I had in my account out of my account. This is NEGLIGENCE on the part of HitBTC.com, and I have advised them of such in my most recent communication after they sent a message that said they cannot refund the money once the trade is completed! Well if they had not allowed fraudulent access to my account in the first place (aka NEGLIGENCE), then the trades could NOT have been made in the first place. It is a direct result o of HitBTC.com’s negligence that my funds were stolen.

If you have funds in HitBTC.com, get them out IMMEDIATELY by any means necessary. Don’t wait for them to allow random people to gain access to your account and to trade all your coins/cash/whatever out of your account permanently. If HitBTC.com was performing their obligations under due care by protecting customer’s accounts from fraudulent access, my funds would not have been STOLEN! HitBTC.com knew the access was fraudulent or at least highly questionable, as was evidenced by them sending me an email questioning if they were legitimate accesses of the account. If HitBTC.com had simply chosen to WAIT until I VERIFIED that those logins were legitimate, then HitBTC.com would not be liable for the funds that were STOLEN from my account. But because they identified the logins as potentially fraudulent, they then had to exercise care to ensure that someone wasn’t fraudulently acccessing my account and STEALING my money! Instead they simply allowed both logins to proceed, AND then they allowed ALL of the tokens/coins in my wallet to be exchanged/sold right out of my account. I can’t say they stole every single fraction of a coin, only because the remaining amount was not sufficient to generate a trade/transfer/sale of the tiny amount remaining – or the THIEVES would likely have taken those little bits as well.

I am very glad that I did not have my primary coins stored in HitBTC.com, or I would have lost well over $20,000. I had those coins in a different wallent, which had no such fraudulent logins and thieves stealing my money.

I have shared my *opinion* of HitBTC, and you can now use that information however you choose. Whatever you do going forward, do your due diligence with any / all Coin Wallets you choose to use. Not even millionaires would be okay with having coins stolen out of their account in the way my coins were stolen. They might not feel the bite of the theft like I did, but they would defiintely be upset over the fraudlent access and over th coins being STOLEN from the account.

  19. Bernardo C, 13. February 2018

Do not send your token to HitBTC
They change police for deposit whenever they want.
“The deposit fees will be deducted from the amount of the incoming transaction. The fee amount for every token is shown below the deposit address. Please be advised that if your deposit is lower or equals the fee, the whole amount will be used for the commission and will not be refunded.”
    Respectfully,
    HitBTC

  20. musmus, 7. February 2018

This site is a complete scam, and they are no more than crooked criminals. They stole all of my IGNIS tokens (worth 2 BTC) at the famous airdrop scam!!!
In addition, they take unpublished fees in every withdrawal (can easily be seen when comparing the fees reduced from a withdrawal transaction to the ones in the block explorer…), and make you get stuck with “dust” leftovers of every coin you ever held on their site (which cannot be withdrawn and stays theirs…).

    ***BEWARE OF HITBTC!***

  21. Milan, 7. February 2018

When comes to a problem, like loosing phone, then ou see, that backup code don’t work, and dealing with their support is very stressing. You can wait weeks and months to be resolved. Now I am looking if they resolved any ticket, becouse if I read their forum
I am very afreid for my money there

  22. Milan, 5. February 2018

Yes it is sinple to register,But if you have problem, for example with 2FA, then become comlicated.Support is muted, account is frozen and it tooks month for resolving that. And think about fillings you have between that time. For me, it is SCAM.

    I am not impressed!
i sent all my papers to their compliance@hitbtc.com around the 1/20/18 but 3-4 days later i received a failure notification email ! So i contacted their Customer Services on the 2/25/18 to receive a response 48hours later to inform me that my query was forwarded to their compliance officer. Since then silence, silence !
if a simple process such as account verification takes days, i do not want to imagine what how the processes of withdrawing or depositing may look like!
I would recommend HITBTC to send their team to AMZN for learning what Customer Service and speed really means. Tonight, while addressing a problem i have with a delivery, their A-team resolved my problem in less than 5mns.

    Absolutely horrible …..
They want you send Passport and such as unsecure Email if you want to be verified.
I did that anyway …. 3 days later I receive a message that their Google run mail box is full (????)
I contact support who promise to get back to me within 24 hours, at the latest 48 hours.
48 (weekday) hours past and I have heard nothing …..
Funny to think that they want people to trust them with money ….

It has been 22 days now that I am waiting for my withdrawal from HITBtc to be deposited to my NEM wallet. Operation ID: af760425-c4e4-404f-abde-80303344f739

All I got for numerous message to the support was promises “be assured that eventually your withdrawal will be processed. ” Time is ticking – no results, my coins are frozen on the website, the price fluctuates every day, and HITBtc feeds me with promises… Stay away from this exchange, or you will be undergoing big stress out of nothing.

  31. Jolonzzz, 13. January 2018

I use HITBTC for a few months already , made 2 huge withdraws and everything is OK. i bet all this scum comments belongs to bots from other competing exchanges .
HIT has the best trading features which reminds me professional trading terminals . Other exchanges looks weak and rookie.

  32. Kml, 12. January 2018

Scam Exchange waiting for my ETH deposit to show on my account , for a month Clearly a scam exchange,
Go to their Facebook page and read comments, of people they are not able t withdraw their coins since last years.
it is not they don’t have support, they are simply scam exchange, it has no office or phone number, it is there to steal your money, they let only few people to withdraw their money to keep their scam business going on.

  33. John, 9. January 2018

Do not be fooled by the slick UI. These guys are terrible.
The site is ridiculously slow and constantly throws errors.
    The fees are high.
    No response from support.
My money is stuck there. A simple transfer is taking a ridiculous amount of time.

  34. Podonak, 8. January 2018

I had a decent experience with HitBTC. I’m a noob and transferred 1 ETH – took about 1hr before it was available to trade with. At the time, the website did warn that XRP transfers were not available. Took a chance anyway.

I bot XRP which showed immediately. I24 hours later, website showed XRP withdrawls were available – so I took a chance and xferred to my wallet. Then it showed I had nothing – but that i had a transaction pending. It was couple hours and voila XRP showed up in my wallet!

  35. Kevin, 4. January 2018

I tried to make a deposit to my Hitbtc.com XRP wallet on 12/14/2017. The funds have not appeared in my wallet even though the Ripple ledger says the transaction processed successfully. I have tried to make 2 withdraws off other coins in the last 48 hours. Both are still in a pending status. I have contacted Hitbtc support mulitplie times about both issues. I have not gotten one response. I would recommend you find another exchange.

  36. ano, 3. January 2018

The costs of the withdraw are insanely high for a starting trader.. I’m unable to withdraw my money now, cause the costs are higher than i got!
Also i am unable to trade with normal coins, because i NEED to trade with BTC and i don’t have enough funds to buy 0.01 BTC from USDT… So now i am stuck with USDT or a coin that trades USDT, until i make 3x my money.. and then spent 2x of the money i made on a withdraw…

    This is crazy..

  37. bump, 31. December 2017

I’m receiving random sign-up confirmation emails from that exchange. I would never risk registering there now after such actions.

  38. Danh Vo, 28. December 2017

There is always something wrong with this exchange, always some coins that can’t be deposited or withdrawn, some transfers that are stuck for days, even weeks. Customer support is next to non-existent; they don’t respond to your tickets.

After my withdraw had been stuck for 5 days, I decided to stop trading there. By reading their forum, I figured out which coins could be withdrawn, and converted all my unwithdrawable coins to those and got all of my money out.

I strongly advise people not to trade on hitbtc. When a disaster befalls you, and it most certainly will, especially during times of high activities, you will regret the stress and frustration that you subject yourself to by not listening to the people who have been through it.

  39. kaka bhat, 28. December 2017

The worst of exchanges you will see. They make your funds invisible and trade that for weeks together and if you keep annoying them, they may repay you.

They have kept deposits of DGB open and once you deposit the said coins, they won’t allow you to transfer that to trading account. Neither will they allow you to withdraw that back. They don’t respond to any mail or any query on forum. They have enabled trading of most of currencies in USD but that is their trap to get people in and they starve them of their funds for months altogether.

If you don’y believe me, just try with a small amount first. Once you find the site fine, then only continue. But i assure you that you will be disappointed. There are exchanges like Binance and Bittrex available. Try those and enjoy trading.

Absolutely disgusting support. I accidentally sent my Everex tokens to the Ethereum wallet on HitBTC. The following has been hell. Lets begin:

Raised a support request (ticket 45336) on the 13th via my account. No one bothered to respond until the 19th, after I requested an update through the public support channel.

Once I posted on public support (twice), got a generic response saying that it would cost $100 to withdraw (fine) and if I would like to proceed, and proceeded to close the tickets on the public support channel.

Advised I’d like to proceed but pay in Eth if possible. HitBTC said that’s fine, and they will get back to me soon with more details (still the 19th).

22nd – Followed up asking for update. Was advised that it needed additional investigation and had been escalated to second level support experts and flagged as high priority.

24th – Followed up. No response
26th – Followed up. No response.
28th – Followed up. No response.

Shame because I like their UI, but it’s starting to sound like it’s all a big scam and my tokens will never be credited. It’s an ERC20 token that was sent to an Ethereum wallet, should not be that hard to credit to the right account. At this stage, I don’t give a damn about paying in Eth, take it out of the Everex tokens I sent in. I just want this resolved.

Will update with new information as it comes to hand, but until this is resolved, I can only suggest that people STAY AWAY from this exchange,

Still waiting. Here’s the latest :

    Dear Trader,
Please accept our apologies for the delay in responding!

It turned out to be that we only able to proceed this transaction manually, deducting $100 equivalent from its amount, at the price of the time this transaction got executed (which was approximately 1.67 USD per 1 EVX back then), so this will result into crediting 439.1197605 EVX to your HitBTC account.

We will contact you right after we will proceed (this will happen very soon). Thank you for your patience.

    Regards,
    Marguerite Tessier‍
    HitBTC Support Team

I’ve been asking since the 19th when “very soon” is. As usual, no response. So, I’m trying to contact you through every channel I can. Perhaps one day soon you will bestow upon me the great privilege of replying.

HitBTC is fucking scam! For many coins withdrawals and transfers do not work, so you can’t take coins back. Supports is useless, ’cause nothing real is not doing for hanging withdrawals

  42. Hitbtc former customer, 24. December 2017

    ALERT!
Hitbtc.com is a hack, a scam and fraud!
Don’t expect to be able to see your money once you’ve made a deposit there.
Chatbox is full of bots pushing and raving about unknown coins, no support at all and no chance of ever seeing your money outside of their exchange.
    Absolute ripoff!

  43. Marvin Willis, 18. December 2017

The ratings on this review is highly suspicious and inconsistent with overall reviews on Google which is very consistent. Look at hitbtc’s facebook and Google+ comments – If you like burning your money, get an account with them.

I don’t like it, their withdraw limit for BTC is 1 whole coin. Crazy, steer clear!!

    WARNING

After a week of waiting and studying other people’s fates I’ve come to a conclusion that HitBTC is a SCAM. They took around 5000$ worth of crypto from me. In addition, there are tons of people all over Reddit and their support forums who have lost their money and who are being fed with lies by automated responses from “support”. Let this be a warning to any who are planning to use HitBTC.

Another one scammed by HitBTC reporting in…I lost around $5000.

They WILL STEAL your money either by making it disappear on your account, witholding deposit, witholding withdraw indefinitely, locking your account (with 2FA, password change, emails not arriving or just deleting it) etc.

If you have any information about the owners of this operation please share it here or PM me. I would love to see these people locked up for good.

    Do not use HitBTC!

  49. Snoopysnoopdogg, 3. November 2017

**CONFIRMED – HITBTC IS A SCAM**

    **UPDATE 3rd NOV 2017**
    **HitBTC being served with subpoena’s**

This will be my last update. HitBTC has completely scammed me, they reply publicly and pretend to be resolving the issue, or say it’s resolved or to check the ticket, it’s a lie. They use any mistake you make, a trading one, an account profile one to steal your funds, they stole $130K USD from someone else, I have in excess of 40 messages on my Reddit account of victims from HitBTC.

I can no longer further comment my lawyers are commencing legal action on Monday against the known serviced addresses, and shell company addresses, in an attempt to get the real owners behind the operation. We are also applying to a judge to have their bank account frozen, we believe their bank should hold KYC information on the actual owners – not fake nominee directors, that is the hope.

Once we have this information my lawyers will be perusing arrest warrants for all the directors it doesn’t matter where they are in the world HK, or DK, where-ever they are my lawyers have offices and I am perusing this, client account funded.

**If you are thinking about using HitBTC, don’t you will loose your money**, just do a quick Google search, they skim money on the side if you use the API, or outright steal from you should you loose your 2FA, email address, or anything else. AVOID THEM. No registered address, and serviced addresses with no license to operate, WHOIS hidden on their domain. They are complete scam, yes they may list tokens first, but don’t get lured in use a trustworthy exchange I have lost $44,700 as a result of this, they reply to tickets, and just road block you – asking for one thing after another, non stop road blocking. My money is lost, but you have a choice you don’t need to loose yours too, dont use the exchange, HitBTC is a SCAM.
